South Uist Hotels

South UistSouth Uist Hotels: South Uist offers a wealth of opportunities for vacations of all types but most commonly most people visit the island just to enjoy a most relaxing break in the most beautiful of countryside. As you can see, from the picture on the left, the island features rolling hills which are much softer than those found on North Uist and on the Isle of Harris (to the North). At times the island also appears slightly more colourful, than the other islands of the Hebrides, as there are larger areas of machair featuring a broad range of wild flowers.

The is something really special about the light in the Outer Hebrides (or if you prefer, the Western Isles). Somehow the blue skies seem somewhat richer in colour and this is readily reflected in the waters of lochs, lochans, streams, pools, rivers and the sea. Evenings, and early mornings (very early in the summer), are often feature the most incredible sunsets (and sunrises) you are likely to see in the UK. If you are extremely lucky you can even see the Northern Lights and the islands are often the best place to view meteor showers due to the lack of light polution (and polution in general). So unique is the Hebridean Light that many of Scotland's finest artists have spent time in South Uist, Barra and the islands.
