Isle of Lewis Accommodation
The Isle of Lewis is the largest island in the group of islands, known as the Outer Hebrides (or Western Isles), situated off the west coast of Scotland a few miles west of the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. Although Lewis is actually on the same land mass as the Isle of Harris it is a great deal different. The main difference is in the landscape which appears far less mountainous than Harris but, like Harris, the Isle of Lewis also has some of the finest beaches in Europe, especially along the south west coast of the island.
While many visitors to the Isle of Lewis arrive to enjoy the wonderful countryside others visit to enjoy the many other aspects of the island. Increasingly common is the sight of surfers enjoying the superb waves of the Hebrides but other watersports hae been popular here for some time. One of the most fascinating aspects of Lewis is the wealth of archaeological sites of importance including the well known standing stones at Calanais (Callanish standing stones or stone circle) and Carloway Broch.
