To the left is the blackhouse at Scarista in South Harris. As you can see a blackhouse can be described as the stone built thatched cottage but a blackhouse is truly unique. Yes this self catering accommodation is, from the exterior view, looks very much like any other blackhouse that would have been plentiful on the Isle of Harris at the beginning of the last century but the interior has been totally brought up to date to a fashion similar to a five star rating. To be honest the photo does not really give a true representation of this wonderful self catering cottage as it is actually much larger than it looks.
